Nagpur: A patrolling team of Rana Pratap Nagar police station rounded up a 16-year-old minor during a robbery attempt at Ganesh Temple at Rana Pratap Nagar Ring Road on Wednesday night. However, the police van alerted another minor accomplice, who managed to run away.
Police said that the minor has confessed to committing robbery at two other temples and three vehicle thefts.
According to the police, PSI Priyanka Godmale and team including head constable Manoj Joshi, Vidyadhar Bakshi, Vidyasagar Tiwari and Ashish Titarmare were patrolling on Wednesday night when they found the temple lights were switched on.
As soon as the police van reached the temple, a minor boy standing guard outside ran away. Godmale and team gained entry into the temple and found that the chain lock at the grill gate was broken open and even the donation box lock was broken open. The 16-year-old minor was hiding inside the temple. Police rounded him up when he tried to run away from the other side of the temple.
Police said that the minor boy had already stolen cash from the donation box. Police have seized the tool used to break open the lock and a bag containing cash from him. Later, the minor confessed to having committed two robberies at temples and three vehicle thefts.
Cops said the minor is a standard XI student. The minor has been sent to the remand home. Police are searching for the other minor involved in the case.
